Formed in 2006, Dawsons Construction is one of the newest divisions within the Dawsons Group of Companies. In a short period of time the division has developed an impressive client base across all market sectors including mining, education, healthcare, Defence, commercial, Government, and private clients throughout North Queensland.
Providing the complete construction solution, our experience covers a variety of projects across all market sectors, from initial client contact through all phases of design, to construction, commissioning and handover. Our highly experienced team of carpenters, plumbers, concreters, electricians, and refrigeration mechanics can provide a complete commercial, industrial, and residential maintenance and construction service.
We are highly experienced in design and construction, construction management, lump sum contracts, building maintenance, earthworks and civil works, and working in remote and environmentally sensitive locations.
Asbestos Removal & Demolition
Removal of asbestos must be carried out by licensed operators in accordance with the National Occupational Health & Safety Commission’s Code of Practice for the Safe Removal of Asbestos.
Dawsons has been licensed by the Queensland Division of Workplace Health and Safety to carry out asbestos removal and demolition since 2000, and is highly experienced in the removal of friable asbestos-containing material and bonded asbestos.
Redevelopment of Mossman Gorge Lower Track
This project was to upgrade the existing lower river walking track which follows the river and provides multiple viewing locations. This walking track followed the existing alignment with the project scope including construction of three new pedestrian bridges, three viewing platforms, and the renewal of the walking track. The walking track renewal consisted of stone edging the walking track with decomposed granite rocks and sealing with Ezi-Street asphalt. Works were completed in a very environmentally sensitive area of the World Heritage Wet Tropics with no incidents.
Princess Hills Ranger Base
The Princess Hills project involved the construction of 2 new 3 bedroom houses at Princess Hills Ranger Base. Works including; site preparation, supply of all materials, labour, tools and equipment to erect the new buildings. Works were completed within time and budget.
Rta Housing Upgrades
This project included the upgrade of 3 x manager residences located at River Drive, Weipa. Local resources and labour were used on this project to support the community. Works involved asbestos removal and the full refurbishment of each residence. Works were completed within time and budget.
Tully Gorge Camping Ground
The construction of the new toilet facility at the Tully Gorge Camping Ground including the completion of earth works, construction of concrete slab, installation of septic tank, filtration system, roof, plumbing, fixtures and fittings.
Conway Ranger Base
This project for Queensland Parks included site preparation and clearing, construction of new work shed 18m x 9m, concreting and asphalt works, installation of security fencing, fit out of work shed, and the removal of existing demountable building. All works were completed within time and budget.
The Wairuna project included asbestos removal to 4 buildings, demolition of 12 buildings/structures, structural upgrade of roof framing, roof replacements, installation of hydraulic services, installation of electrical, painting and general refurbishment and restoration works.
Coen Carrier Station
This project involved the recording of heritage internal, safe removal of asbestos wall sheeting and roof sheeting, decontamination and clearance, the installation of a new roof, resheeting of external walls and painting works.
Old Incitec Shed
The demolition of the Old Incitec Shed included the demolition of the identified main shed and small shed including the removal of the slab, removal and disposal of existing metal sheeting / braces / posts, disposal of all collected timber and concrete waste and protection of the existing concrete slab by means of a sand / soil medium. All works were completed on time and within budget.

Lex is a member of the 20+ year club at Dawsons. A Cairns local and boilermaker by trade, Lex has extensive experience in Mining, Sugar and Marine industries, spending many years on projects around North Queensland during the work hard, play harder era. Lex now heads up our Asbestos and Demolition Division, where his meticulous planning and attention to detail ensures that we are operating within our statutory requirements and providing the safest and most reliable service to our clients.
